FRANKLIN SIMPSON WINS SECOND STRAIGHT DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP
by Jay Summerall, Sports Reporter, The Extra Point
(Bowling Green, KY) — Franklin-Simpson earned their second straight 13th District title after 64-39 rout over Todd County Central.
After a first quarter that had everything you could think of. Franklin-Simpson took over with their smothering defense and a dominating quarter from LaReesha Cawthorn.
As the 2nd quarter slowed, the Lady Cats’ defense would still keep Todd County’s offense out of sync and out of rhythm, forcing 7 turnovers in the first half. Slow and steady wins the race as the Lady Cats’ ease their way into the 4th with a comfortable lead. Jamya Kay would score 6 straight points for the Lady Rebels in the 4th quarter.
LaReesha Cawthorn shuts down the run as she would be a thorn in the Lady Rebels side all night long as Lionel Richie would say. Cawthorn continues to prove why she’s the 4th Region Player of the Year. It was a big night all around for the Lady Cats, dominating all night, easing their way to a 2nd straight District Championship.
