WKU Ranked 3rd in NATION for Hearst Awards Competition

(BOWLING GREEN, Ky.) – Western Kentucky University’s School of Media & Communication Broadcasting program earned a 3rd place ranking in the first round of the National Hearst Journalism Awards Competition.

The competition consists of four unique rounds where each school competes based on their journalism content across multiple mediums including television, photography, and writing.

WKU finished 6th overall in the 2024 Hearst Journalism Awards Competition, and WKU has placed in the top eight overall for 31 STRAIGHT years.

WKU’s historic journalism legacy includes 17 individual Hearst national championships since 1985 and four overall program championships between 2000 and 2018.

The Extra Point continued its own tenure of success in 2024 celebrating 15 years of coverage for WKU Athletics on Homecoming, and the program is proud to contribute to the award winning journalism heritage at WKU.
