(BOWLING GREEN, Ky.) – The Western Kentucky University Women’s Basketball team opened their 2024-25 home-slate with an impressive 104-49 victory over Kentucky State. The 104 point performance was the most in points scored by a Lady Topper team since 2007 (vs. Florida Atlantic).

WKU never trailed against Kentucky State in route to the win, led by senior Destiny Salary with 18 points. Mariama Sow tallied a career high 17 points with a 3-for-4 performance from beyond the arch.

The Lady Toppers took a 27-14 lead after the first quarter before outscoring the Thoroughbreds 33-11 in the second and going into halftime with a 58-25 lead.

The third quarter saw back-and-forth scoring runs for both teams, but WKU started the fourth on a 17-0 run and put the game to bed.

“It was a great opportunity to get some players who just need some minutes on the floor,” said Lady Topper Head Coach Greg Collins. “Acacia Hayes had six rebounds, and I’m not sure if she had six rebounds in three games last year. I’m really proud of that effort.”

The Lady Tops will take that effort on a two-game road trip starting with Mercer on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. ESPN+ will have the coverage.
