WKU VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS NEW MEXICO STATE 3-0

(BOWLING GREEN, Ky.) — WKU Volleyball came from behind to secure a 3-0 win over New Mexico State on Saturday, taking the first two sets before rallying to win the third and final set. With the victory, the Hilltoppers improved to 21-6 overall and a perfect 14-0 in Conference USA play, while the Aggies fell to 14-12 overall and 8-6 in conference play.
WKU was led by freshman middle hitter Faith Young, senior outside hitter Kaylee Cox, and freshman pin hitter Alivia Skidmore, all of whom recorded 10 kills each. Senior rightside hitter Kenadee Coyle contributed defensively, posting three blocks.
The first two sets were closely contested, with WKU edging New Mexico State 25-23 in both. In the first set, Skidmore posted a standout .500 hitting percentage (7-1-12), while Cox added four kills. The Hilltoppers also recorded two service aces, one from Cox and one from senior outside hitter Katie Howard, while sophomore middle hitter Izzy Van De Wiele contributed two blocks.
The second set saw nearly identical hitting percentages for both teams, with WKU at .250 (10-3-28) and NMSU at .258 (14-6-31). Cox and Skidmore added two more kills apiece, while Coyle added two solo blocks and Howard, Young, and redshirt junior setter Callie Bauer combined for three more service aces.
Down by as many as 10 points in the third set (20-10), the Hilltoppers mounted a 16-5 scoring run to claim the set 26-24. Young led the rally with five kills, while Van De Wiele and Cox added four kills each. Junior libero Abby Schaefer anchored the defense with four digs.
WKU finished with 43 kills to New Mexico State’s 42, with Cox, Skidmore, and Young all posting 10 kills. Schaefer recorded double-digit digs for the 14th time this season.
WKU will travel to Huntsville, Texas, for their final regular-season road match against Sam Houston State on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. CT.
