Bemis Lawrence coming down, making way for First Year Village

Students, staff, and community members came out to watch the Bemis Lawrence Hall demolition on Friday morning.
The demolition is part of the Student Life Foundation’s First Year Village project.
Two new residence halls will house more than 600 students in living/learning communities. That means students with similar interests will be grouped together.
Both buildings will have pod-style layouts. Groups of 25 students will share bathrooms and common spaces.
The new halls will also have study rooms, classrooms, music practice rooms, and recording studios.
The next step in the project is the demolition of Barnes Campbell Hall, which will start in June 2021.
The First Year Village is expected to open in August 2021.
